
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. 3 At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— 4 that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. 5 Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. —Colossians 4:2–6
Jesus is greater than all. Therefore, those who know Jesus will be changed by Jesus.
Use the time you have to make a
This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. —1 Corinthians 7:29
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. —Ephesians 5:15–16
What must you do to make the best use of your time? Paul gives two commitments.
Believers Must Commit to
pray without ceasing, —1 Thessalonians 5:17
“But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. —Mark 13:32–33
Why do we struggle to pray? It’s not about
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. —Romans 1:16
Believers Must Commit to
11 Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and saltwater? 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. —James 3:11, 13-15, 17
