Key Verses: 1 Peter 3:14-22
Opening Question: In what situation or circumstance do you feel the most secure?
1. Read 1 Peter 3:14-15
a. How can we “not fear” amid active suffering for the sake of the gospel?
b. We are told to “always be ready to make a defense,” “for the hope that is in [us].” What do we need to know to be ready? How is this the same or different from what you’ve been taught, whether directly or indirectly in your church experience?
c. What does one need to know to make a defense?
2. Read 1 Peter 3:16-17
a. What does it look like to “keep a good conscience?”
b. Even the best among us will face slander. How are we to combat slander? How does this contrast with our natural tendencies?
3. Read 1 Peter 3:18-20
a. Jesus died once for all. How is it that Jesus could die for those who existed before His ministry on earth? What is the significance of this truth? (Note: salvation has always been by God’s grace alone through faith alone.)
b. Discuss the significance of God allowing humanity to reject Him.
4. Read 1 Peter 3:21-22 (see also Acts 8:35-38)
a. Why do we make baptism so difficult for new believers when it is clear that the early church baptized as soon as possible after conversion?

• How can you as a Life Group help one another live securely (i.e., not living in fear, not being intimidated by an anti-God culture, sharing your faith with non-believers, etc.) in your faith in Christ?
