“Real” Men or “Good” Men?

How We Got Here: When men left the home, boys had to figure out manhood for themselves.

The Lord’s Call (Joshua 24:1-15)
A) Look at all the Lord has done for you (v. 1-13)

B) Turn from your idols and worship the living God (v. 14)

C) Choose today: As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (v.14-15)

  2. Why do you think God created humans as having distinct genders?

  1. Pastor Josh talked about how many men hold two competing scripts for masculinity. Describe the “Good” Man versus the “Real” Man. Which one is more important, and why?
  2. Who have you known personally that you would describe as being a “good man”? In what way?
  3. How would you describe God’s call for manhood, and how does that contrast with our culture’s current view of manhood?
  4. What effect do you think fatherlessness, absentee fathers, and checked out fathers has had on how well boys today can learn what it means to be a man?
  5. Read Joshua 24:1-15. What is it Joshua is calling them to, and why? How can this same call apply for men to step up today?
  6. How can we together pray for, encourage, and inspire young men to walk into the vision of Christian manhood that God has called them to?
