Everyday Jesus Notes 6.5.22
June 4, 2022

Everyday Jesus: Everyday Jesus is a great way to deepen your Bible reading, prayer life & personal time with Christ.

• Monday: Read Ephesians 5:1-33, Philippians 2:3, Submission is a must for Christians & we submit out of reverence for Christ (v21). Submission has been misused to apply only to wives and to indicate a “doormat” status. I pray this week’s message & study have begun to undo that thinking. Pray the Lord will continue to deepen your own understanding & even more so, practice of submission to Christ, flowing from reverence for Him.
• Tuesday: Read Ephesians 5:22-33 Wives submit to husbands, as to the Lord. This statement is a matter of trust. As the church trusts Christ to lead with the care He would care for His own body, wives trust their husbands to lead. This is both specific to wives and example for us all. Today, ask God to deepen your Trust in Him in your relationship with people.
• Wednesday: Read Ephesians 5:1-33 The call to submission is reciprocal - not just for wives, but for us all, even husbands. A husband loves his wife according to how Christ loved the church and {gave himself} up for her. The point of Christ’s submission was to sanctify, cleanse and present the church to God, hold & without blemish. Christ’s submission for the church (His body) models how (a)husbands are to give themselves up for their wives (b) Christ followers are to submit to one another - v21. Meditate on Christ’s selfless submission for the church and His point in doing so. Whether married or single, begin to ask the Lord to show you how to grow in your own practice of submission to Him. [Who do I submit to, why or why not]
• Thursday: Read Eph 5:22-31, Genesis 2:18-21, Matthew 19:1-7, Paul cites Gen 2:24 underscoring, without mutual submission, a couple aren’t ever really joined. As true of marriage, its really a profound mystery connected to Christ and the church. In our new nature, we now submit to one another (v21). Ask the Lord where you have been in relationships both (a) with a specific church and (b)with people, without ever really connecting with them.
• Friday: Read Eph 5:1-31 The command is for husbands to love their wives as they love their own selves and wives to respect her husband. To husbands, wives & all Christians, the relationship between Christ and the church is the model. Meditate on Christ’s sacrifice for the church, asking the Lord if your sacrifice for others models that.
