05/21/2023: THE GREAT SUSTAINER - WEEK SIXTEEN
May 21, 2023

THE GREAT SUSTAINER

Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. —Psalms 55:22

HE SUSTAINS US WITH THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH

SUSTAINER DEFINED:
ONE WHO GIVES SUPPORT AND RELIEF THROUGH RESCUE OF THE WEAK.
ONE WHO SUPPLIES “CONSTANT” SUSTENANCE AND NOURISHMENT.
ONE WHO SUPPORTS THE WEIGHT OF ANOTHER, TO PROP UP, TO BEAR UP UNDER.
ONE WHO BUOYS UP WITH HOPE.

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2  By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,
3  and every spirit that does not confess [a]that Jesus [b]Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
4  You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
5  They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them.
6  We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. —1 John 4:1 - 6

1 Beloved, do not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world.
2  By this you may know (perceive and recognize) the Spirit of God: every spirit which acknowledges and confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ (the Messiah) [actually] has become man and has come in the flesh is of God [has God for its source];
3  And every spirit which does not acknowledge and confess that Jesus
Christ has come in the flesh[but would annul, destroy, sever, disunite Him] is not of God [does not proceed from Him]. This [nonconfession] is the [spirit] of the antichrist, [of] which you heard that it was coming, and now it is already in the world.
4  Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.
5  They proceed from the world and are of the world; therefore it is out of the world [its whole economy morally considered] that they speak, and the world listens (pays attention) to them.
6  We are [children] of God. Whoever is learning to know God [progressively to perceive, recognize, and understand God by observation and experience, and to get an ever-clearer knowledge of Him] listens to us; and he who is not of God does not listen or pay attention to us. By this we know (recognize) the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of error. —1 John 4:1 - 6 (AMPC)

1. The Spirit of Truth sustains us out of love.

Beloved, do not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world. —1 John 4:1 (AMPC)

So then faith comes by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God. —Romans 10:17

3  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
4  and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. —2 Timothy 4:3 - 4

For false Christs and false prophets will appear and they will provide great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect (God’s chosen ones). —Matthew 24:24 (AMP)

So then faith comes by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God. —Romans 10:17

2. The Spirit of Truth sustains us through the empathy of Christ.

2  By this you may know (perceive and recognize) the Spirit of God: every spirit which acknowledges and confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ (the Messiah) [actually] has become man and has come in the flesh is of God [has God for its source];
—1 John 4:2 - 3 (AMPC)

12  For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
14  Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15  For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16  Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. —Hebrews 4:12 - 16

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. —John 1:14

3. The Spirit of Truth has adopted you into victory.

Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and  overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world. —1 John 4:4 (AMPC)> 14  For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
15  For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
16  The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
17  and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. —Romans 8:14 - 17

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. —Romans 8:11

Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. —Romans 10:9 (AMPC)
