  1. Only God can give the gift of tongues and therefore no one should seek it on their own. (1 Cor. 12:11)
  2. When a person speaks in tongues you will always recognize it as an intelligible language. (1 Cor. 14:10)
  3. All use of the gift of tongues for personal gratification and enjoyment is strictly forbidden. (1 Cor. 14:12; 14:26; 10:24; 12:7; 1 Pet. 4:10)
  4. The gift of tongues was primarily a sign to unbelieving Israel and not of some mystical spiritual experience. (1 Corinthians 14:22)
  5. You should never allow more than three persons to speak in tongues at any gathering. (1 Cor. 14:27a)
  6. When someone else is speaking in tongues, all others must wait their turn. (1 Corinthians 14:27b)
  7. The gift of tongues cannot be used if there is no interpreter present in the service. (1 Corinthians 14:27c-28)
