Growth Group Questions - The Great Commission
Part of Matthew—Closing Chapters
February 5, 2023

This week we finish our study of the book of Matthew by looking at an incredibly important passage in which Jesus gives us His final command.

  1. When do you find it easy to follow Jesus? In what situations do you find it more difficult?

  2. Read Matthew 28:16-20. What does Jesus expect of each of us? Why should He expect us to obey Him? What does it mean to be a disciple?

  3. Watch Every Disciple Making Disciples with David Platt on the RightNow Media in the River City Christian library. What are the three actions in making disciples? Why are each essential to obeying the Great Commission? How have you seen these actions lived out in the lives of brothers or sisters you respect?

  4. Making disciples is ultimately the work of the Holy Spirit, but God graciously uses us to facilitate transformation in people’s lives in our other places. Define “other places.” What are the other places in your life?

  5. To obey Jesus’ command to make disciples, we need to be available, be passionate worshippers, and submit to God’s full authority in our lives. What challenges are you currently facing in fulfilling Christ’s command to make disciples?

  6. Who in your other place is God calling you to share the good news of Jesus with? How can the group encourage you and hold you accountable in your efforts to impact their lives with the Gospel?

  7. Take some time to look over this document on Disciple-Making at River City. What in this document encourages you? Pray together that we will be a disciple-making church.
