Jeremiah 31:33
“But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel after those days,” says the Lord. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. NLT

Series Idea:

We couldn’t do the first step without Christ, But with Christ we can take it all the way.

God First:

(1. No other Gods, 2. Idols)

Main Idea:

Following Christ means putting God first in every area of your life.

Exodus 20:1-17 (10 Commandments)
20 Then God gave the people all these instructions[a]:
2 “I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. 3 “You must not have any other god but me. 4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. 5 You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me. 6 But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those[b] who love me and obey my commands. ESV

Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. ESV

Matthew 22:36-40
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” NIV

HARD TRUTH:

If God is not first in EVERYTHING, Then he is not first in ANYTHING…

If he is NOT first…You have made YOURSELF first …It’s one or the other.

Matthew 6:24
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord]. AMP

CHALLENGE:

Be honest with yourself…

What areas in your life are more important to you than your relationship with God?

What needs to happen for God to start being first in those areas?
