Hebrews 10:1-18
10:1 | The OT sacrificial system could never produce what worshipers sought: perfect forgiveness of sin (1 Sam. 15:22; Ps. 51:16-17; Jer. 7:21-23; Hosea 6:6; Amos 5:21-24; Micah 6:6-8). In the same way that a picture of someone only represents a real thing, a shadow is not the reality but is cast by the reality. Under the law, the Israelites had only representations of the good things to come in the form of the animal sacrifices they offered year by year. With the arrival of the reality - Christ - the very image of those things became clear (Col. 2:17).
10:7 | Wholehearted obedience that says, Your will, O God, is the sacrifice that God truly desires and He received this perfect sacrifice from His Servant Son.
10:9 | Takes away can also be translated as “kill, remove, destroy.” The first. imperfect Levitical sacrifices were abolished so that the second, perfect sacrifice obtained through Jesus’ obedience could be established.
10:11 | The fact that the same Levitical sacrifices had to be offered repeatedly proved that they could not finally take away sin.
