Initiating Kindness Does Not Have to Be a Big Gesture
Luke 8: 43-48
43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years,[c] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
Initiating Kindness Does Not Always Mean Being “Nice”
2 Samuel 12: 1-7
The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, 3 but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.4 “Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him.”5 David burned with anger against the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this must die! 6 He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity.” 7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!”
Ephesians 4:15
“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.”
Initiating Kindness Should Not Be About Yourself
Esther 4:16
“16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.”
Initiating Kindness Can Look Different for Everyone
1 Peter 4:10
10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
Moving Forward
Initiating kindness isn’t an option. It’s something we need to do as a Christ follower. What preconceived notions that have held you back before do you need to get rid of to move forward?
Kindness needs to be a big gesture or does not matter and I do not have energy to do that
I do not know how to address others
Am I struggling with thinking of others above myself or only focusing on me?
Someone else can do it better so why should I bother?
Lord, we pray today for you to take away our false thoughts about initiating kindness and reveal to us how you want us to move forward to glorify you. Give us time to be quiet in order to hear you and give us open hearts to receive what you say.
