Luke 6:46 (ESV): Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?

Jesus

those who follow him to his commands

Luke 6:47–49 (ESV): Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”

Obedience is the

of our perseverance

James 1:2–4 (ESV): Testing of Your Faith
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Application:

This week consider the command Jesus has given his people. The command he has given us. The word “No” and “Lord” cannot exist side by side. Jesus expects his people to obey his commands.

Pray that God would reveal any place in your life where you might be saying no instead of Lord.

Questions to consider this week

  1. Is there any place in your life that you are say no to Jesus? If so what is that and why?
  2. What would it look like if instead of saying no you said Lord and submitted yourself to Jesus as Lord? Do you believe obedience to Jesus would make your life worse, or are you willing to truth him as Lord?
  3. We trust Jesus with our eternity. Are you willing to truth him with the rest of your life through obedience?
