Thriving in Babylon - Week 4 - Discussion Questions
May 21, 2023

INTRODUCTION
Pastor Cory this past weekend recapped our Thriving in Babylon series:
WEEK 1 – Captivity in Babylon…Babylon (the spirit of) wants to strip your IDENTITY and wants to COMPROMISE your CHARACTER
WEEK 2 – Fiery Furnace…Worship is our response to what we value most and he exposed 3 FALSE GODS:
1.POSSESSIONS
2.POWER
3.PLEASURE
WEEK 3 – Daniel in the Lions Den…your faith will be tested and it will be agitated
This week he talked about praying for the “peace of the city.” Let’s examine that and endeavor to unpack what that means and how to live it out in our daily lives.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1.) When you hear the term, “pray for the peace of the (your) city,” what is your initial thought? Have you ever thought of that? Where might you struggle with that?

2.) Doing God’s work in the city means 1) Don’t reject the city, 2) Don’t write off the city, 3) Seek God’s best in the city. What does that look like for you? How can you practically do that?

3.) Pastor Cory talked about the difference between a thermometer (which reads the temperature and a thermostat (which sets the temperature). Which are you?

4.) Who can you speak life to this week? Will you be intentional?

5.) We also heard that, “I am responsible for me and greatness comes through serving.” How can you serve your spouse, family, friends, job, community this week?

6.) What sphere of your life needs some value added to it? What can you practically do to add value to your environment this week?

MOVING FORWARD
“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper (Jeremiah 29:7).” We learned that even when living in a pagan culture (which is all of them, including ours) we are to pray for the welfare and peace of our city/community. The challenge for this week is for us to pray for our city (officials, leaders, etc.) for 5 minutes every day. And if we all do that, 20,000 minutes of prayer will cover our city! Also the call to action this week is to 1) Pay it forward, 2) Speak Life, 3) Random acts of kindness, 4) Make something better…add value, 5) Put shopping carts back in the stalls! Let’s make a difference this week in our city and watch God open doors for some supernatural interactions and intersections with people who need to experience the love of God.
