Psalm 23:1-6:
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

3 INSIGHTS INTO GOD’S GOODNESS:

1) GOD’S GOODNESS REVEALED

Psalm 23:5: You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

A King’s Table

2) GOD’S GOODNESS CONCEALED

3 ENEMIES OF EVERY CHRISTIAN:

  • THE WORLD AROUND ME

1 John 2:15-17: Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

  • MY SINFUL NATURE INSIDE ME

3) GOD’S GOODNESS REALIZED

  • THE FULLNESS WE HAVE IN CHRIST

You prepare a table before me…

  • THE FRESHNESS WE HAVE IN CHRIST

…You anoint my head with oil.

Ephesians 5:18: And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit…

  • THE FREENESS WE HAVE IN CHRIST.

    …my cup overflows.
