Colossians: Day 3

Verses 1:15-20
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.

Questions:
1. What does this passage teach us about Jesus?

2. What does it mean the Jesus is the Head of the Church?

3. If everything was created through Him and for Him, what does this teach us about people (teach us about ourselves)?

4. What did Jesus blood shed on the cross bring?

Interpretation:
Jesus is God and is the firstborn of all creation - this signifies eternality. God is invisible, but can be seen in Jesus. Everything is, was, and will forever be - always about Jesus. Christ is sustaining creation so that it does not disintegrate into chaos. The human body is a metaphor for the church, and Jesus as the head controls everything (Jesus controls the church) and provides leadership and sustenance. Jesus is the firstborn among the dead - Jesus was the first chronologically to resurrect from the dead and never die again and because of this He reconciled and restored our relationship with God.
