Psalms 70:1-71:24

70:2-3 | Shame, confusion, and confounding are three means by which God dissuades the enemy.

70:4-20 | The psalmist lists some of the reasons for life’s trials: ungodly foes, an uncertain future, unfaithful friends, and God’s sovereignty. To fully rely on the character and compassion of God is the wise response. James reminds God’s people that God uses trials to refine their faith (James 1:1-12).

71:4 | The Hebrew word for cruel suggests leaven or yeast. This person’s wickedness was fermenting.

71:17 | Wonderous works refers to doing something extraordinary. The works of God are worth believing and declaring.

71:19-20 | Just as a father will allow his children to experience difficulties so they can grow in knowledge and strength, God sends difficulties in the lives of His children to strengthen and refine them (Heb. 12:4-11).
