Mark 1:16-20 Sermon notes
February 26, 2023
This morning we continue our study of geninue salvation and life changing faith.
This was not the first time Jesus had met these four fisherman. (John 1:35-51) However, the center of our passage comes from verse 17: “Follow Me, and I will make you fisher of men.”
But how does this relate to geninue salvation and life changing faith? Mark reveals this to us by breaking this statement into the two parts.
- “Follow Me.” Jesus is walking around the Sea of Galilee, as He will do many more times in His life, and walks by these fishermen, looking each one dead in the eyes, and makes this statement, “Come follow Me.” But what does this actually mean? It means you come to realize that you need Jesus. It means you choose to trust Him, over all of the other voices in this world. It means to have the intent to obey Him, no matter what He might ask you to do.
- “I will make you fisher of men.” Jesus would give them a new purpsoe in life. I heard someone say once “that there had to be more in life than just going to work each day, making money, spending money, and seeking fulfillment in life.” The different Jesus provides us is purpose. He takes a teacher, and suddenly they have become more than a teacher, a welder, and they are now more than a welder, a lawyer, and they are ore than an attorney. We have become a people with a unique story to share. This is why your story is so important, because others need to hear it.
All four of these fisherman dropped everything they were doing and followed Jesus. Will you do the same this morning? Will you dropped everything and come to Him? He is waiting for you this morning. Come.
