Unselfishness
Satan is the master of seduction and deception. He loves to prey on people and entice them into sin. He gets us so wrapped up in our fleshly desires that we throw our logic and values to the wind. But when Jesus transforms our personality, we become less conscious of feeding our selfish desires and we place the focus on God’s will and serving others. He wants to transform us from selfishness to unselfishness. I. The problems. (vv. 19-25) A. The rich man ignored the needs of his own community. B. The rich man ignored the reality of his own mortality. II. The punishment. (vv. 25-31) A. Some people have a hard time believing in hell. B. Hell is talked about 54 times in the Bible. C. Every time Jesus talked about eternity it was relegated to one of two places—you are either saved or you are lost. III. The prescription. A. Discern God’s will 1. Read your Bible. 2. Pray regularly. 3. Rely upon the Holy Spirit for direction and wisdom. B. Decide to honor others above yourself. C. Determine to live this life with eternity in mind.
