Dreaming Big Dreams – An Honest Inspection

Are you ready to live out God’s dreams for your life?

Discuss

Have you ever felt stuck at a job or vocation? What did you do?

What’s a big project you’ve undertaken? What was required to plan? Who did you have to enlist to help? What were the results?

Study

Nehemiah 2:11-20

Summarize what happens in 2:9-12 and what it reveals about Nehemiah.

What did Nehemiah find when he inspected the walls (2:13-16)? Why did he spend three days in Jerusalem without telling anyone his plans and survey the walls at night with only a few selected friends?

In 2:17-18, what reasons did Nehemiah give for trying again to build the wall? One of his reasons was that the ruins were a disgrace (2:17); why would he have characterized the situation this way?

What’s Next

Are you more of a planner or a worrier? What are some ways that you prepare for success?

What are some of the things you do that help you to “listen” to God?

Why do you think that “timing” is important when it comes to communicating?

Why do you think it is important for us to own our brokenness?

What are some ways that you and/or your group can bring restoration to the brokenness in our world?

Prayer

Thank you for the lessons that we learn from the life of Nehemiah! Help me to realize how broken I am and God use my brokenness to impact the world around me.

And I told them of the hand of my God that had been upon me for good, and also of the words that the king had spoken to me. And they said, “Let us rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work.
