I AM the Good Shepherd

John 10:1-18

The Context: False Shepherds (John 9:1-41)

Jesus is the Door, the Good Shepherd (John 10:1-18)

How The Shepherd Leads Us
1. He knows us. (John 10:14)
2. He calls us by name. (John 10:2-3)
3. He leads us personally. (John 10:4)
4. He lays down His life for us. (John 10:11, 17-18, Isaiah 53:7, Psalm 22:1, Psalm 22:16)

We Follow Him:
1. In every area of life.
2. Even when it doesn’t make sense.

Discussion Questions

Introductory Question: Share if you have ever had any experience around sheep. If so, what was your impression of their nature?
1. In John 10:14, Jesus refers to Himself as the good shepherd. Is this a comforting analogy? Why or why not?
2. Read John 10:2-3. In what way does the Shepherd lead us? How does it make you feel to be called by name? What type of relationship does this show that Jesus wants to have with us?
3. There are many scriptures that tell how Christ gave His life for us. Read the following and discuss what comes to mind as it relates to our salvation. John 10:11, 17-18, Isaiah 53:7, Psalm 22:1 & Psalm 22:16.
4. Because of who Jesus is, how does it make sense to follow Him? Why do you think non-believers choose to follow others instead of Christ?
