Thriving in Babylon 2 - Week 2 - Discussion Questions
May 8, 2023

INTRODUCTION
We learned from Pastor Cory this past weekend that Babylon is more than a location, it’s a spirit. Babylon represents evil. It’s anything that sets itself up against the Kingdom of God; it’s the Anti-Kingdom.

Babylon is anything or anyone who:
• Tempts you to be SOMEONE you are not
• Causes you to COMPROMISE your faith
• DISTRACTS you from being who God has created you to be

Even though the story found in Daniel 3 happened centuries ago, it’s safe to say that we are currently living in modern day Babylon. So the question is, how do we live in our world without becoming like our world?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1.) Where do experience the spirit of Babylon in your life?

2.) There are three primary false gods…Power, Money, and Sex. How do see these play out in the world in which you live? Where have you been challenged personally?

3.) Whatever has our attention, time, energy, and resources is what we worship. Why is it so important that we give God our first of all of these?

4.) Where do you feel the pressure of compromise in your life? What can you do to counter that?

5.) What does worship look like in your life? How can you grow in this area?

6.) What are some standards or non-negotiables that you have set up in your life? What are some that you need to put in place?

MOVING FORWARD
Just as Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and David had to learn how to navigate a pagan and ungodly culture, we as children of God find ourselves in similar territory. The reason that these Jewish youths were able to stand strong and not compromise is that in Daniel 1:8, they “purposed in their hearts” not to compromise. They intentionally set standards, non-negotiables in their lives. They were certain things that just weren’t going to do. As we follow that model, you and I can stand strong and not only survive, but thrive in our current Babylon.
