  SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

WARM UP: What is the first thing you think of when you think of Christmas? [Most people don’t automatically think of God’s Sovereignty when they think of Christmas, but it is everywhere in the Christmas story.]

HEAD: These questions help us examine the Word.

  1. [If you didn’t do this last week] Read Psalm 115:3 & 16. From these verses, how would you biblically define God’s sovereignty?
  2. Read Luke 2:1-5 and Matthew 2:13-18. How do you see God sovereignly intervening amidst the actions of Caesar and Herod?
  3. How should the belief in God’s sovereignty affect the way Christians approach politics?

HEART: These questions help us wrestle with what we believe.

  1. How would you be able to tell that you have put your hope in political power instead of God’s power?
  2. For some of us, it is easy to trust God with something big like politics, but it is harder to trust God in the everyday. Is there an area of your life where you are fighting for control instead of trusting in God’s sovereignty?

HAND: These questions help us bring truth and beliefs into our everyday life.

  1. Pastor Peter gave couple practical ways to remind ourselves that God is in control: Stop and pray and remind yourself of who God is, and imagine the worst case scenario. Have you done these things before and how have they helped?
  2. Are there any other practical ways that you have found to help remind you that God is in control?
