John - Day 22: The Good Shepherd
In the passage it becomes evident that Jesus is the Good Shepherd, we are sheep and that He is forming His flock! There are several things this passage tells me about the Good Shepherd. First, the Good Shepherd knows me. He knows His sheep (vs. 15). He calls them each by name (vs. 3). The Good Shepherd knows me and still exchange places with me (v. 15). Jesus says several times that the Good Shepherd lays down His life for His sheep. Wow!! One of the things this passage points out is that the Good Shepherd cares for His sheep and leads them and protects them because He cares for them. Real life is found in the presence of the Good Shepherd (vs. 7-10). Eternal life does not begin the moment we die but the moment we accept Jesus eternal and abundant life is ours. This life is found in the Good Shepherd, He says stay with me, follow me! Jesus wants us to experience life to it’s full. How does that happen? I need to learn to listen
to and for His voice in my life! Our Good Shepherd leads us, He does not drive us. He leads us by the sound of His voice. The question is do I recognize and follow the Good Shepherd’s voice? There are many voices today and He leads us with the sound of His voice. Not only does He lead us to life but He protects us. He will never leave us and He will not abandon us!
