PRAY
We are back on Peter’s journey with Jesus today. Before diving in, take a moment to pause and pray. Write out your own preparatory prayer, offering God your time and focus. Ask Him for any grace and peace you may need over this time.

THE TRANSFIGURATION
According to the Gospel of Luke, the events that happen in today’s story are just eight days after Peter was rebuked by Jesus and most likely very close in time to when Peter made his confession. As you read, keep those events in mind.

READ AND CONTEMPLATE LUKE 9:28-36*
As you read, picture yourself as Peter, there with James, John and Jesus witnessing what is unfolding before your eyes.

If you were Peter, what would be going through your mind? How would you be feeling?

Why do you think Peter said what he said in v. 33?

There is no question this moment is very significant to Peter. Why? It is a heavenly confirmation of the moment of the confession he made just days before. Peter actually explains this later in one of his epistles.

READ AND CONTEMPLATE 1 PETER 1:16-18

MAKE IT PERSONAL
Has Jesus revealed Himself in a way that you knew He is who He claims to be and that He is alive and active today? Where and how?
(Some Examples: When I first trusted Him as my Savior. When I went through a study on His life. When I was at

and happened).

THE BOTTOM LINE
Peter wants to stay and camp out at this amazing moment where he sees Jesus glowing, hears the audible voice of the Father, and is face to face with two Old Testament heroes. It’s hard to blame him. However, that does not seem to be the point of this moment. It would also be really tempting to come down from that mountain and start bragging about what you saw. Couldn’t you just see Peter going to Andrew and saying, “Hey bro, you aren’t going to believe what I just witnessed…” Yet, we read that Peter, James and John kept this experience to themselves at the time (v. 36). Maybe the biggest reason for this moment was so that Peter could see with his eyes what his heart had already known and his mouth had already confessed; Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God. And in seeing this, he would remember it in the times that he needed to (like when writing 1 Peter 1:16-18).

Victor Raymond Edmond famously said, “Never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light.”

As we face tough or dark times in our Here to There journey, may we be a people who live out this challenge.
