STIR US UP, O GOD
Text: 2 Pet. 1:13, 3:1
2 Pet 1:13 (KJV)
Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
2 Pet 3:1 (KJV)
This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
1. Stir Us Up To Remembrance (Dt. 5:15, 15:15, 16:12, 24:18)
1) Remember
2) Remember
3) Remember
2. Stir Us Up To Reverence (Josh. 4:24)
Woodrow Kroll – “Fearing God is not about fearing the punishing hand of God, the wrath of God, the chastising hand of God. Fearing the Lord is about fearing the removal of the mighty hand of God.”
God told the children of Israel to build a memorial to remember the great works of God.
1) That people might
2) That they might- Not fear his hand coming against them, but rather his hand departing from them.
3. Stir Us Up To Repentance (Rev. 2:4-5)
When Jesus spoke to the church at Ephesus, he told them to remember the height from which they were fallen and repent.
Jesus told his people, followers, believers to repent.
- Repentance is about turning away from
4. Stir Us Up To Return
Jesus said to remember, and repent, and then to return. (cf. Rev. 2:5)

- Perry Noble: What you and I lift up, we will live out.
- If we don’t lift up Jesus, we won’t live Him out in our lives.
- What you value ultimately determines what you do.
3]
- The new believers confess what was wrong and repented. They had an eagerness to follow Jesus.
Bottom line: When we are stirred to remembrance, reverence, repentance, and return, we will experience the stirring of
in our hearts.
- Five effects of revival:
1) Sin hardened hearts are broken before God
2) Wills are changed
3) God’s holiness is honored
4) A burden for lost souls is borne
5) The love of Christ is manifested toward one another
