Icebreaker: Which responsibility at home or work would you gladly give up?

Have everyone spend time reading Acts 6:1-7 quietly to themselves. After a few minutes, either have one person read the passage for the group or have each person take turns reading a portion until the entire passage has been read.

Sermon Observation Questions

  1. Was there anything from this past week’s sermon that stood out to you? Explain. Was there anything from the sermon that confused you? Explain. Was there anything from the sermon that invoked an emotion? If so, what was it?

  2. Observations about this passage: Who was the audience or the characters? What does this passage tell us about sinful man? What do we learn about God or Jesus from reading this pas- sage, and how does that impact the way we love people and love God?

  3. What questions arise from reading this passage?  Is there any thing from this passage that sticks out to you personally? If so, what?

Life Application Questions

  1. Given Acts 2:44-45 and 4:32, how could widows be neglected? How do the Apostles choose to fix this problem?

  2. What secondary issues hinder your church from fulfilling Acts 1:8? Find scriptures in the New Testament that tell us about the role of deacons in the church?

  3. Why does God want the apostles or pastors to put their energy and attention on prayer and the ministry of the word? Do you believe most pastors focus on prayer and the ministry of the word or neglect them? Explain

  4. Next Steps: In what ways can you help the church accomplish the mission to make disciples who make disciples by “waiting on tables?” Are you currently serving within the church in a needed area? Why or why not?
