Welcome

Thank you for joining us!

We have a great service planned, so let’s worship together!

The Lion and the Lamb

Artist: Leeland

He’s coming on the clouds
Kings and kingdoms will bow down

And every chain will break
As broken hearts declare His praise
For who can stop the Lord Almighty

Our God is the lion
The Lion of Judah
He’s roaring with power
And fighting our battles
And every knee will bow before Him

Our God is the lamb
The lamb that was slain
For the sins of the world
His blood breaks the chains
And every knee will bow before the lion and the lamb
Every knee will bow before Him

So, open up the gates
Make way before the King of Kings

The God who comes to save
Is here to set the captives free
For who can stop the Lord Almighty

Our God is the lion
The Lion of Judah
He’s roaring with power
And fighting our battles
And every knee will bow before Him

Our God is the lamb
The lamb that was slain
For the sin of the world
His blood breaks the chains
And every knee will bow before the lion and the lamb
Every knee will bow before Him

Who can stop the Lord Almighty
Who can stop the Lord…

Our God is the lion
The Lion of Judah
He’s roaring with power
And fighting our battles
And every knee will bow before Him

Our God is the lamb
The lamb that was slain
For the sins of the world
His blood breaks the chains
And every knee will bow before the lion and the lamb
Every knee will bow before Him

The Voice of the Lord

Artist: Michael Himes

The voice of the Lord makes the mountains move
The voice of the Lord whispers hope and truth
The voice of the Lord flashes flames of fire
The voice of the Lord brings your hearts desire

Ascribe all strength, Ascribe all glory
To the honor due His Name … Jesus name
So lift your voice, Up to the heavens
To our Lord, the King forever

The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness
The voice of the Lord heals your loneliness
The voice of the Lord rules with righteousness
So worship… in the splendor of His holiness

Ascribe all strength, Ascribe all glory
To the honor due His Name … Jesus name
So lift your voice, Up to the heavens
To our Lord, the King forever

Ascribe all strength, Ascribe all glory
To the honor due His Name … Jesus name
So lift your voice, Up to the heavens
To our Lord, the King forever

Hear Him say, “I’ve come for the lost”
Hear Him say, “rise up and walk!
Hear Him teach and see him pray
Hear Him say, “I am the Way!”

See Him innocent accused
See His body pierced and bruised
See Him laid behind the stone
See Him now, upon the throne

Ascribe all strength, Ascribe all glory
To the honor due His Name … Jesus name
So lift your voice, Up to the heavens
To our Lord, the King forever

Ascribe all strength, Ascribe all glory
To the honor due His Name … Jesus name
So lift your voice, Up to the heavens
To our Lord, the King forever
To our Lord, the King forever
To our Lord, the King forever

Goodness of God

Artist: Bethel Music

I love You, Lord
Oh Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
And in darkest night You are close like no other
I’ve known You as a Father
I’ve known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God, yeah

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
With my life laid down, I’m surrendered now
I give You everything
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me, oh-ohh
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
With my life laid down, I’m surrendered now
I give You everything
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

All my life You have been faithful
All my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
I will sing of the goodness of God

I’ve Come to Serve

Artist: Michael Himes

I’ve seen those who try.
I’ve seen those who compromise.
I’ve seen those who put their trust
In things that will return to dust.

And then they’re those who thought I’d come
With an army and a sword.
Not a carpenter from Galilee
With love and words.

I’ve come to serve
I’ve come to give you all I am
I’ve come to show you more
Will you do the same

Blessed are the poor.
Blessed are the meek.
And for those who mourn
Come to me and I’ll give you peace.
Blessed are the children in the simple way they know.
Blessed are my branches in the simple way they grow.

I’ve come to serve
I’ve come to give you all I am
I’ve come to show you more
Will you do the same

Prayer

Scripture Focus & Notes

Matthew 5:38-42 (HCSB)

You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I tell you, don’t resist an evildoer. On the contrary, if anyone slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. As for the one who wants to sue you and take away your shirt, let him have your coat as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to the one who asks you, and don’t turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Wait…What…I’ve Got to Go Further?

Our Default Setting (38)
• Jesus comes to untangle principles of retribution and the law of retaliation by an invitation towards humble forgiveness.
• If we want justice to prevail, we must let our ego get out of the way.
•Jesus’ words are infinitely more important than our religious practices and processes.

Our Opportunity (39-41)
• Jesus is pitting “be fair” against his invitation to be radically unfair.
• We are people who deescalate offense rather than escalate it.
• The radical way of Jesus is to be un-insultable, to surrender our rights, and to sacrifice more – even before those that have hurt us deeply.

The Greater Song (42)
• Generosity is a greater song that Jesus wants to sing before a selfish world.
• We are called to be open-hearted and open-handed in our generosity.

Communion

Do this in remembrance of our Lord.

How Great Thou Art

Artist: Carl Boberg

Oh Lord, my God
When I, in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration
And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

How great Thou art, how great Thou art
