We Believe (Week 5)

He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also put

, but no one can discover the work God has done from beginning to end. —Ecclesiastes 3:11

Here at Impact, we believe, everyone we will all spend eternity in

or .

What we believe about death…

Death is

Just as man is destined to die once… —Hebrews 9:27-28

The soul and the body

at death.

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. —Matthew 10:28
…He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. —John 11:25-26

We will all face

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment… —Hebrews 9:27

What we believe about hell…
Hell is a place of unspeakable suffering for those who haven’t received salvation in Jesus.

Why does Hell exist?
Hell exists for God to deal righteously with

.

…Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. —Matthew 25:41

Hell exists for God to deal righteously with

.

He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power… —2 Thessalonians 1:8-9

What makes hell hell isn’t the flames and pain, it’s the separation from our creator forever.

“Sir, I do not share your faith. But if I did—if I believed what you say you believed—then although England were covered with broken glass from coast to coast, I would crawl the length and breath of it on hand and knee and think the pain worthwhile, just to save a single soul from this eternal hell of which you speak.” —Charles Peace

God doesn’t want anyone to go to hell.

… (The Lord) is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. —2 Peter 3:9

What we believe about heaven…
Heaven is a place of unfathomable joy for those who have received salvation in Jesus.

Nearly every Christian I have spoken with has some idea that eternity is an unending church service. After all, the Bible says that the saints “worship God in heaven,” and without giving it much more thought we have settled on an image of the never-ending sing-along in the sky, one great hymn after another, forever and ever, amen. And our heart sinks” —John Eldredge

God will do away with

, and .

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” —Revelation 21:4-5

God will

with us.

Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. —Revelation 21:3

There is only

, to spend eternity in heaven.

“Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also. You know the way to where I am going.” “Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where you’re going. How can we know the way?”Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. —John 14:1-6

Application

What you believe about death and eternity will determine how you live here on earth.

What would you do if you knew you only had 30 years to live? 20? 10? 5?

How can an eternal persepctive change you every day decisions?
