Part 3: My Stability Looks Like Something | Antione Ashley

Objective: To encourage all that they can have great stability in Christ in the midst of a shaking life.

Text: Luke‬ ‭6:46-49‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
““But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.””

In this message today, we will talk about what stability looks like in the midst of storms. Remember God wants you to know that you can be unshakeable, and today this is what it looks like.

Here Jesus defines what a stable man is, explains what he looks like, and I want to encourage you today, that you can bear this same image of stability in Christ in your own life.

Luke 6:46-49 NKJV
46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was [j]founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it [k]fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

Jesus shows us what a stable man looks like, and here some foundational points right off the bat

A man who is Stable looks like someone who understands:

  1. :

  1. His of God

Jesus said that when a man is coming to Jesus, hearing His words, and doing them, his life will obtain and exhibit STABILITY.

Jesus makes a powerful statement, suggesting what stability looks like…

Luke‬ ‭6:48‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“He is like a man…
Jesus said, the stable man looks like something.

Here are three descriptions of a Stable Man…

1 Intentionally Building

Luke‬ ‭6:48‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.”

We are all building some sort of house, and we all have questions on how to do that.

Every house comes with a required set of

and to ensure its proper safety.

The point is, in this life we are building a house by which we are aiming to live successfully, and there are elements in this world designed to destroy what we are living in; therefore, it is imperative we know how to build AND FIND YOURSELF DOING IT.

2 Digging Deep

Not only is the stable man intentionally building a house, but in order for him to build a house, he must first be found Digging.

Luke‬ ‭6:48‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“He is like a man building a house, **who dug deep
and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.”

How Do I Dig Deep?

You will need FOUR DIGGING TOOLS

1 You dig deep by coming to Jesus (LEAF RAKE)

Luke 10:39
And she (Martha) had a sister called Mary, who sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word.

2 You dig deep by delighting in his word (Rake)

Psalm 1:1-3
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the [a]ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he [b]meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree planted by the [c]rivers of water…

3 You dig deep by searching the depths of darkness (Garden Hoe)

Daniel 2:21-22 NKJV
21 And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. 22 He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.

4 You dig deep by receiving from the Holy Spirit (Garden Hoe)

1 Corinthians 2:10 TPT
10 But God now unveils these profound realities to us by the Spirit.[a] Yes, he has revealed to us his inmost heart and deepest mysteries through the Holy Spirit, who constantly explores all things.

Your stability in Jesus is dependent on the depth by which you dig into the:

3 Laying a Foundation

Luke‬ ‭6:48‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.”

Laying foundations in the bible times was always a great cause for ceremony and celebration. Anytime a foundation was laid, there was joy and a dedication to God about what he was about to do.

The same is with you; whenever you decide to lay a proper foundation in God, there is a celebration

Israel Had The

Foundation
Israel had a foundation they were living on and God confronted them on it through the prophet Isaiah.

“In the days of Isaiah, the leaders of Israel had chosen to rest their security on a different foundation. They chose to put their trust in their own political savvy. Through various military alliances, they thought they could hold their nation together. Ultimately, however, this shaky foundation failed and Israel was taken captive by the Babylonians.

Yet God declared through Isaiah that He would establish a CORNERSTONE that would never fail - a stone that could be trusted because it had been tried and proven to be precious and sure.” —BACKTOTHEBIBLE.ORG

Isaiah‬ ‭28:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.”

God said that if they would trust this stone he would, they’d never act hastily.
- This haste is referring to stumbling and being shaken.

THE PASSION TRANSLATION (PARAPHRASE) Footnotes says:
“will never run away (in fear).”
Faith, firmly set upon Christ, is patient and never rushes, for faith leaves the timing of all things in God’s hands. Peter quotes this verse, saying, “Whoever believes in him will certainly not be disappointed” (1 Peter 2:6).

The Foundation Is A

.

A Cornerstone:
Is the most important part of any

They are the key to keeping the walls .
If the cornerstone was set properly, the stonemasons could be assured that all other corners of the building would be at the appropriate angles as well.

Thus, the cornerstone became a symbol for that which held life together

IS THE CORNERSTONE

Isaiah 28:16 NLT
16 Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.

What’s the Result?

Luke 6:48
…And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
