Scripture: Hebrews 11:29-12:2
Big Question: Our ancestors and all who have come before have set a path for us. How can their example spur us onward?
Take some time to share:
• One thing that you are thankful for this week.
• One thing you need.
• How can the group help?
Bible Discussion: Read Hebrews 11:29-12:2
• What about this passage stands out to you as you read?
• Think about the race imagery that is being used in this passage. Is this a solo race? Or a group effort?
• Does the cloud of witnesses described in chapter 11 give you confidence in your own portion of the race, or do their victories cause you to feel intimidated? What do you think the author’s intended for you to feel?
Application:
Sometimes we can place biblical characters and those that have gone on before us up on pedestals…finding it hard to measure up to their success in our own minds. The purpose of remembering this “Cloud of Witnesses” and their stories is not to cause us to feel less than, rather it is to help us remember that everything we are facing has been faced before. We are not alone in our journey towards righteousness and where we fall short, others may succeed…and vice versa!
• How can we build on the legacy of those that have gone before us?
• How can we live into our purpose as being a PART of the long race, and not the main event ourselves?
• What do you hope others will build on after your portion of the race is complete?
