Part of Confronting the Counterfeit
May 17, 2023

Main Idea:
Confronting Counterfeits

Check-In (Highs & Lows) 15 min
A great, quick way to catch the highlights of what is happening in the lives of the people in your group is to take turns quickly sharing the “highs & lows” of your week. High: What was your biggest highlight since we last met? Low: What was the low point during this time?

Settle-In (Ice-Breaker) 10 min
Were you afraid of the dark as a kid? Why or why not?

Dig-In (Scripture) 35 min
1. Read 1 John 1:1-4. Why does John use what he’s experienced through his senses to make his case for what is true? How is that compelling evidence?

2. Although we have not seen or touched Jesus, what are the ways you have encountered Jesus and the truth of his work?

3. In 1 John 1:3, who does John list first when he talks about fellowship? Why do you think he talks about fellowship with God’s people first?

4. Who demonstrated what fellowship with Christ should look like through your relationship with them?

5. Read 1 John 1:5-10. What characteristics of God do we see in this passage?

6. In verses 7 and 8, how does fellowship play a part in helping us distinguish whether we are in the light or in darkness?

7. What are two things that happen when we claim to be without sin? How does this impact the way you view sin?

Gear-Up (Application) 15 min
1. What do you do in times where you start to wonder “what if”? How can you help others when they start to question?

2. Is fellowship with God a priority for you? What are some steps that you can take to be more intentional in fellowshiping with God?

Step-Up (Homework)
Take some time this week to reflect on the areas where you might still walk in darkness. Bring this to God in prayer and confess the areas you are keeping in the dark.
