A New Normal Day With Jesus | Study Guide
April 26, 2020

Wolfgang’s sermon was different than most sermons at Northshore. Bet you never thought you’d end up in his bedroom or bathroom on a Sunday!

Connect

What is something that you have done or said in the last two months that you never thought you would do, even in your wildest dreams?

Engage and Apply

Just like Wolfgang took us on a virtual field trip, encouraging us to look for ways to invite Jesus to join us throughout our day, we are going to go through our homes and discuss ways that we can do that. Let’s not carry our laptops through the house as we discuss, though. That could lead to a lot of motion sickness! Just imagine yourself in your space as you talk with each other.

  1. First off, remember that we know that Jesus is with us—always. Read John 14:23 and Matthew 28:20.
  2. Let’s start in the morning in your bedroom and bathroom. How can you include Jesus in that part of your day? What can you think about, pray about, and do? Read Lamentations 3:22-23.
  3. Now, head off for the business of the day. For many of us that means just moving into another room in the house for school or work. How can you invite Jesus into that portion of your day? Read some or all of these verses and discuss how they apply to whatever your daily work is: James 1:5; Philippians 4:6-7; Mark 12:29-31.
  4. Let’s go to the front door. Maybe you are returning home from an essential job, from a masked trip to the grocery store, or from your one breath of fresh air while getting the mail. In what ways can you include Jesus in those moments of your day? Read Psalm 121:8.
  5. Time for dinner! Gather in the kitchen. How can we connect with Jesus while preparing and eating meals? Are there ways that we can express gratitude for God’s presence and provision that are fresh and meaningful?
  6. Surprise location! If you still have time in your group, choose one more location and brainstorm how you can invite Jesus to be present with you there. Some ideas: garage, rec room, garden shed, laundry room, mud room, kids’ closet, office.

Pray
Take time to pray for each person in the group, by name. Ask God to bring fresh awareness of God’s presence in their lives this week, as we go about our “new normal”.

Challenge
Talk through ways we can serve in our neighborhoods a little more at this time. What’s everyone doing to notice and be a part of what God’s doing right around us? For some of us, that’s the only way we can serve right now, but maybe that’s the biggest potential for impact we’ve ever known.
