“Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” 7 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.” – Haggai 1:5-7

The way most people deal with their

for us to deal with our money:

“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty.“But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’“In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty. —Malachi 3:6-12

II. Our generosity and giving are directly

to our relationship with God.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. —Luke 12:34

III. The principle of the

(first fruits)

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops… —Proverbs 3:9

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. —2 Corinthians 9:6-8

How God wants us to deal with our

people have towards tithing

A. Isn’t this an

thing?

“Tithing was so deeply imbedded in the Jewish conscience that it needed virtually no mention in the New Testament.” —RT Kendall

1 - Jesus

tithing:

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. —Matthew 23:23

2 - Paul

tithing:

On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. —I Corinthians 16:2

B. Isn’t tithing just for people who can

it?

God never talks about the amount to give, only the

.

As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 3 “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” —Luke 21:1-4

V. God’s generosity modeled through the church is a powerful

to the community.

“Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty. —Malachi 3:12

VI. God is committed to you and wants you to enjoy His financial

.

Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. 9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. —Proverbs 30:8-9

I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. —Psalm 37:25
