Questions we have considered:

• Do we serve Him with our time, talent, and treasure?
• Are you beholding His mercies and responding with your whole life, looking to take every area captive under His Lordship?
• Do we realize He wants to use us in our community and among the nations? What is God calling you to do?
• God has designed you to be in relationship with Him, to live in His presence. Just like God has designed you to respond to Him in worship with your whole life, God has also designed you to be in continual communication with Him through prayer.

You Pray…”

Matthew 6:5-6 | “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
• Jesus

that this will be a part of the life that lives in fellowship and communion with God.
• We saw it in His own

// Matthew 14:23 | And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.
// Luke 5:16 | But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.
// Luke 6:12 | In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.
// Hebrews 7:25 | …He always lives to make intercession for them.

• The

of prayer is God-centered. The reason I pray is to spend time with Him, focus on Him, enjoy Him, worship Him, and submit to His leadership. This is the “reward” of those who are truly seeking Him according to Jesus (v. 6).

The of Prayer

Matthew 6:7-8 | 7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
• The method of prayer is pouring out your

to God. We don’t need to chant or chatter as other religions do. The underlying reality of prayer is that God already knows our heart and knows our needs even before we ask.
• So why pray?

// Because in calling us to ask, God is

us to experience the transformation of asking and receiving His provision. It’s relational. (John 14:12-14)
// Because asking what is truly in our heart. Asking unveils motives and values.

• Two Questions:
1. If prayer is not your normal activity, then where are you finding your strength for your normal?
2. What situations actually DO drive you to pray?

The of Prayer

• Matthew 6:9-13 | Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
• In these verses, Jesus

a helpful, rightly-oriented prayer. For centuries Christians have prayed this word for word or just follow the pattern.
• Focus on…

// His

// His
// His

Imagine having the kind of relationship with God where prayer was a habit and you saw Him answer often? Do you think this is God’s will for your life?
