Graduation Sunday - Keep Flying Your Kite
May 15, 2022

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. —Colossians 3:1-4

1 and reminds us of the heavenly things

9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. —Colossians 3:9-10

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. —Hebrews 4:14-16

2 helps us focus on earthly needs in a Heavenly manner like Christ.

12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. —Colossians 3:12-14

13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. —Galatians 5:13

3 Godly encourages us as we walk daily in our new life.

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. —Colossians 3:15-16

2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. —Galatians 6:2

24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. —Hebrews 10:24-25

Food For Thought

James 1:22 says, do not just be hearers of the WORD but doers. What can we put into practice?

  2. In Col 3:1 Past- Since indicates something has already happened. Where are you right now according to this amazing truth? What implications does this have for your life with God? Eph 2:6; 2 Cor 5:17; Rom 6:4; and Phill 3:20.

  3. In Col 3:2 Present-What three practical ways were mentioned in the sermon that help us keep are focus heavenly?

Ideas have legs. What is your life focus? How does your life reflect your heavenly mind on earth in your behaviors or your relationships?

  4. In Col 3:4 Future- Your life is hidden in Christ will be manifested later. Setting your mind on your future glory. Rom 8:18-25; 2 Thess 2:14; and Rom 5:2. How can you desire and delight in your future home with your King? How does this help you on this side of Glory when we have so many momentary troubles?

  5. Memorize—In Col 3:4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you will also appear with Him in glory
