It was for this freedom that Christ set us free [completely liberating us]; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery [which you once removed]. —Galatians 5:5

Questions

-What does that mean that Christ has set us free? Set us free from what?

-What has Christ set you free from personally?

-What has Christ set us free to? What is available to us now, that may not have been available to us before?

-What do you think Paul means when he says “keep standing firm and do not be subject again to the yoike of slavery”?

-Have you ever struggled with “going back” to certain things that God has set you free from? What are those things and why do you think you struggle with it?

Notice, it is I, Paul, who tells you that if you receive circumcision [as a supposed requirement of salvation], Christ will be of no benefit to you [for you will lack the faith in Christ that is necessary for salvation]. —Galatians 5:2

Questions

-What do you think Paul is saying here?

-What are some “other requirements” that we have trusted in for our salvation?

-Why do you think Paul says that Christ will be of no benefit to you if you add requirements in order to believe in your salvation?

Once more I solemnly affirm to every man who receives circumcision [as a supposed requirement of salvation], that he is under obligation and required to keep the whole Law. You have been severed from Christ, if you seek to be justified [that is, declared free of the guilt of sin and its penalty, and placed in right standing with God] through the Law; you have fallen from grace [for you have lost your grasp on God’s unmerited favor and blessing]. —Galatians 5:3-4

Questions

-What do you think that means?

For we [not relying on the Law but] through the [strength and power of the Holy] Spirit, by faith, are waiting [confidently] for the hope of righteousness [the completion of our salvation]. For [if we are] in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but only faith activated and expressed and working through love. —Galatians 5:5-6

Questions

-What do you think it means to be waiting for the hope of righteousness?
Notes

-Here is one of the “already but not yet” verses. We are already made positionally righteous before God the moment we believe. And we are already forgiven of our sin. We are already recipients of a new nature and the Holy Spirit. But we are not yet perfectly righteous practically.
-That is what we are waiting for in faith.

-Our position of righteousness is given and immediate!

-Our growth in righteousness is walked out and progressive.

-We grow up into the fullness of our new nature.

So that we are no longer children [spiritually immature], tossed back and forth [like ships on a stormy sea] and carried about by every wind of [shifting] doctrine, by the cunning and trickery of [unscrupulous] men, by the deceitful scheming of people ready to do anything [for personal profit]. But speaking the truth in love [in all things—both our speech and our lives expressing His truth], let us grow up in all things into Him [following His example] who is the Head—Christ. —Ephesians 4:14-15

Questions

-Where do you think you are in this process?

-Have you put 100% of your faith in Christ for your salvation or are you trying to earn it?

-How are you intentionally growing up in all things into HIM or walking out a progressive righteousness?
