James 1:19-27
LIVE
James 1:19-20v ESV – Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Ephesians 4:26-27 ESV – Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no opportunity to the devil.
Matthew 12:36 ESV - I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak.
James 1:21 ESV – Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
LIVE
James 1:22-24 ESV – But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.
James 1:24 ESV – For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
Matthew 7:3 ESV – Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?
Hebrews 3:15 ESV - Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.
Jeremiah 32:33 NLT - My people have turned their backs on me and have refused to return. Even though I diligently taught them, they would not receive instruction or obey.
James says that our looking should come with a perseverance to see what God wants you to be that leads to LIVING A LIFE OF CONVICTION.
James 1:25 ESV – But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
LIVE
James 1:26-27 ESV – If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.
James 1:27 ESV – Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
Colossians 3:12 ESV - Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.
Ephesians 4:32 ESV - Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Matthew 9:36 ESV - When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
James 1:27b, “…and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
The book of James is practical living in an unpractical world. Having FAITH FOR TODAY requires that we apply His Word to our everyday lives.
