To walk by the Spirit you must crucify the flesh

Galatians 5:16–18

The flesh = carnal, sinful, selfish passions and desires.

Walk by the Spirit = a lifestyle made possible by the Spirit of God (Deuteronomy 6).

To gratify the flesh means to carry out or perform what the flesh desires.

v. 16—We are commanded to walk (active)
v. 18—We are led by the Spirit (passive)

Galatians 5:19–24

Four categories of sinful vices:

Taking part of the God’s kingdom at the consummation (the end) means submitting to God’s rule over one’s life now. —David DeSilva

Cruciformity—a life that is conformed to the cross of Christ.

Kill sin or it will kill you. —John Owen
