The Greatest of These Part 4 – The Mantle of Humility
August 2, 2020

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. —Matthew 18:1-4 - NKJV

When Jesus speaks of humility here, he’s not speaking of humiliation. “The grace of God humbles a man without

him and exalts a man without him.”

Instead, he describes humility as becoming childlike. Childlike, not childish.

• Children are

on their parents. Children are generally and honest about their needs. They are trusting.
• Children are sponges that are taking in the world. They are and hungry to learn. Why?
• Children are amazed and by the new things they discover.
• Children are loving, , and affectionate.

Whoever will humble himself therefore and become like this little child [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving] is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. —Matthew 18:4 AMP

Learn this well: Unless you dramatically change your way of thinking and become teachable, and learn about heaven’s kingdom realm with the wide-eyed wonder of a child, you will never be able to enter in. —Matthew 18:3 (Passion Translation)

And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. —Matthew 23:12
