Day 131 - Everlasting Father
Emily Green
“May the King’s name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through Him and bring Him praise.” - Psalm 72:17 NLT
“And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” - 2 Corinthians 6:18 NLT
The next characteristic of God is the Everlasting Father. Let’s look at what these words mean.
“Everlasting” used in Isaiah 9:6 means “eternal” or “forever.” If God is everlasting, then it means He nor His Kingdom has an end. As Luke 1:33 says, “He will reign over Israel forever; His Kingdom will never end!”
Depending on your relationship with your earthly father, how you view God as a Father may be skewed. The word “Father” in Isaiah 9:6 is defined as the “father,” “originator,” or “producer” of a people. In the simplest form, God as Father means He is the Originator, the Creator of all people. However, to take it a step further, God is a loving Father who is benevolent and desires a relationship with His children. This type of Fatherhood demands respect and honor, not out of force but out of gratitude. Regardless of how you view your earthly father, you can view God as a great Father who loves and protects us!
As the Everlasting Father, God’s character is steady. He is always loving and seeking a relationship with His family of believers. When we see God as our Everlasting Father, we know that we are loved with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3) and will spend eternity with Him!
Next Steps
- Think about it: Do I see God as “everlasting”? Why or why not?
- Think about it: How is my relationship with my earthly father? Does this relationship affect the way I view God as my Father?
- Action Step: Look up verses that reference God as a Father. Pick a verse and write it down as a reminder of God’s character.
