Scripture: 2 Samuel 11:26-12:10, 13-15
Big Question: How does God help us to see ourselves when we have made a big mistake?

Take some time to share:
• One thing that you are thankful for this week.

• One thing you need.

• How can the group help?

Bible Discussion: Read 2 Samuel 11:26-12:15
(If you are unfamiliar with the story of David & Bathsheba, make sure you read chapter 11 as well)

• What about this passage stands out to you as you read?

• How could someone who has been given so much, take so easily from others?

• Do you find that the more you have, the more you want?

• David orchestrated a man’s death, and yet he burned with anger over the story of the slaughtered ewe. What goes on in our brains that allows this kind of illogical reasoning to occur?

Application:
• David’s life is heralded as one that is God centered & holy, yet repeatedly we see him as this flawed individual. What can we glean from this as flawed individuals ourselves?

• Have you ever had someone “step on your toes” the way Nathan did to David? Nathan was intentionally trying to trip up David, but often times a good “toe stepping” can be quite unintentional.

• Why is it easier to see the fault in others than it is to see it in ourselves?

• David immediately repents of his sin, and, though he is forgiven by God, the consequences of his actions are not immediately done away with. Repentance does not equal a lack of responsibility or repercussions. It’s important to remember that when we make a mistake, the consequences are our own doing…not God’s punishment. The reason God wants us free from sin to begin with is so that we can avoid the negative consequences for ourselves & others.

Challenge: HOLD UP A MIRROR. When you feel yourself getting ready to judge someone else this week for their shortcomings or mistakes, take a beat and think about your own mistakes. This should not a be a punishment, rather it should be a moment of reflection…give God thanks for his forgiveness and extend a little extra grace to others as well!
