Message Notes:
When God sees you he sees a hero. He sees your potential to rise up in your story become a force for good in the world.
Hebrews 11:8-12
“By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed [h] by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he left, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he lived as a stranger in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; 10 for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11 By faith even Sarah herself received [i] ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore even from one man, and one who was as good as dead [j] at that, there were born descendants who were just as the stars of heaven in number, and as the innumerable grains of sand along the seashore.
Abraham’s faith manifested itself in three heroic qualities all through his story:
1. Heroes finish what others are only wiling to start.
Genesis 11:27-32
Now these are the records of the generations of Terah…
31 Now Terah took his son Abram, and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they departed [p]together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they went as far as Haran and [q]settled there. 32 The days of Terah were 205 years; and Terah died in Haran.
John 4:34
34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.
2. Heroes finish what others are only wiling to start.
A hero’s transformation is about progress, not perfection.
3. Heroes do the hard things and trust God with the results.
Genesis 22:1-3
Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.” 3 So Abraham got up early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and his son Isaac; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and set out and went to the place of which God had told him.
When God sees you he sees a hero. He sees your potential to rise up in your story become a force for good in the world.
