What are some characteristics of people pleasers?

What do the following passages say about our primary motivation in life (1 Corinthians 10:31; Ephesians 6:7; Colossians 3:17,23)?

Read 1 Samuel 15:24-31 and Mark 15:11-15. Discuss the effects people pleasing had in each situation. How should these situations have been handled differently?

APPLY:

When does people pleasing affect your life the most?

How can people pleasing hinder your ability to make mature disciples of Jesus?

Has the desire to please people ever gotten you into a situation of hypocrisy? Please explain.

How can you fight the urge to be a people pleaser?

How can you cultivate a greater desire to please the Lord instead?

Keep a list of how you find yourself tempted to please people instead of serve Christ.
Do you see any patterns? Are there any compromises you’re making? What needs to change in your desires, attitudes, or behavior?
