Matthew 4:17(NLT) From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”

1. God wants us to keep

.

Matthew 5:33-37(NKJV) 33“Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’ 34But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. 37But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

2. Jesus wants our words to

.

Ephesians 4:21-25(NLT) 21Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. 25So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.

John 8:44(NLT) For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

Proverbs 12:22(NKJV) Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.

3. When we lie, we speak

.

Zephaniah 3:17(NKJV) The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

When you live in a culture where you’re constantly not sure if what you hear is truth, you need to be consistently in God’s Word because the only way to deflate the devil’s lies is with God’s truth.
