Psalm 23

Are you “

” or “ ?”

Are you

and or are you by the Good Shepherd?

opening out into an eternity of with God.” —W. Phillip Keller

Are you with the Good Shepherd?

Discussion

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to experiencing what it’s like to be a shepherd?

Have you worked with animals? Led a group of needy people? Felt like an outcast?

What would be the qualities of a good shepherd?

How does God, The Good Shepherd, exhibit those qualities?

Read Psalm 23 line by line and discuss what David, a shepherd, would’ve been thinking (as opposed to what an urban dweller in 2021, like us, might first think).

To get to good pastures, a good shepherd would sometimes take his sheep through a valley. How might this play out in our lives with The Good Shepherd.

Have some quiet time to reflect on this:

  • Are you “in want” or “content”

  • Are you afraid and anxious or are you calmed by the Good Shepherd?

  • Allow people to share any insights during their time of quiet.

Extra: Read the Parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke 15).
