Foundations (Part 2) - CREATION: In Six Days

[Matthew 7:24-27 ESV]
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came,
and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

What determined their outcome was their FOUNDATIONS.

Do you really believe God’s Word, the Bible?
Do you believe it is authoritative, without error, infallible?
Do you believe it can be taken literally and is historically accurate?

Why so many theories?

When you feel that you have to reconcile God’s Word with
man’s word, everything becomes very complicated and complex.

Secular philosophy’s attempts to explain the origins of life apart from God cannot be mixed with the Bible.

Why should you care about this?

If you can’t believe Genesis 1 & 2…
the foundation for the first Book,
the foundation for the entire Old Testament,
the foundation for the entire Bible;
why would you believe any of It?

DAY 1

[Genesis 1:1-5 ESV]
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

[Colossians 1:16-17 ESV]
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

[2 Peter 3:5 ESV]
For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God,

The claims of naturalism are in opposition to God’s Word.

[Genesis 1:3 ESV]
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

Summary of Day 1
[Genesis 1:5 ESV]
… And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

DAY 2

[Genesis 1:6-8 ESV]
And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7 And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. 8 And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

What is this expanse?
- Earth’s Sky?
- Earth’s Sky, Atmosphere, and Outer Space?

[Psalm 148:3-4 ESV]
Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars! 4 Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!

[Isaiah 40:22 ESV] It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in;

[Job 26:7 ESV] He stretches out the north over the void and hangs the earth on nothing.

[Genesis 1:8 ESV]
… And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

DAY 3

[Genesis 1:9-13 ESV]
And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. 12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

Was the earth not good on Day 1?

Summary of Day 3
[Genesis 1:9-13 ESV]
And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

DAY 4

[Genesis 1:14-19 ESV]
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16 And God made the two great lights–the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night–and the stars. 17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

DAY 5

[Genesis 1:20-23 ESV]
And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” 21 So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

DAY 6

[Genesis 1:24-31 ESV]
24 And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds–livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. 25 And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Creation was now complete. It was very good! —-

DAY 7

[Genesis 2:1-3 ESV]
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Foundation of the 4th Commandment

[Exodus 20:8-11 ESV]
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day.
Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

We get a 7-day week from God’s working and resting in Creation.

Did God create everything in 6 literal days?

[Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31 ESV]

Did God create everything in six days?

Do you believe God’s Testimony?

Three Reasons why old earth and evolution
are unBiblical and should be rejected:

REASON 1:

Genesis was given to us by an Eyewitness.

[Job 38:4 ESV]
“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.

God was present at Creation and has given Eyewitness Testimony.

The Lord Jesus Christ quoted Genesis 1 as Authoritative Scripture.

REASON 2:

The timeline of an old earth and evolution cannot be harmonized with the Text of Scripture.

The timeline found in the Bible, show us that the universe is around 6,000 years old.

REASON 3:

If you accept billions of years, you believe in ages of sickness, suffering, and death BEFORE sin entered the human race.

[Genesis 2:16-17 ESV]
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Genesis 3 - Adam transgresses God’s Command.

[Romans 5:12 ESV]
Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned

How did death enter the creation?

When is the first sin recorded?

… When Moses writes that God created heaven and earth and whatever is in them in six days, then let this period continue to have been six days, and do not venture to devise any comment according to which six days were one day. But, if you cannot understand how this could have been done in six days, then grant the Holy Spirit the honor of being more learned than you are. —Martin Luther (1523)
