INTRODUCTION
In this message series we are talking about the onslaught of information, stimulus, and noise demanding our attention. John Eldridge wrote, “We’ve been sucked into a pace of life nobody’s enjoying.” We have contemplated the quality of our personal union with God. Then last week Pastor Cory invited us to notice three specific ways Jesus is drawing us to Himself.
This week we will continue to courageously evaluate the current choices (trades) we are making and how they are affecting the quality of our lives.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- What does the role of your phone in your life tell you about yourself?
- Jesus often talked about “denying yourself.” Why do you think this was such a point of emphasis for Him?
- The urgency of our culture and the tyranny of our wants demand to be met. When is the last time you remember saying, “No” to yourself?
- “You are in charge of your life.” Sometimes it feels like we are on a treadmill and we just hope to be able to somehow keep the pace. This is not at all what God intended for us! God gave you your life for Himself, you, and others. How is He inviting you to step off that viscous treadmill?
- Old habits die hard and new ones don’t “just happen” (although Jesus promises to help us). What is/are specific habit(s) you will do your best to put aside for 21 days? What is/are specific practice(s) you will do your best to add to your life for the next 21 days?
MOVING FORWARD
This is our third week of very specific and relevant challenges to slow down and start getting our lives back. The messages and these questions are useless if we choose merely to listen and neglect to make adjustments. Zero judgement, but allow yourself to listen to the still, quiet voice of God inside your heart. Allow Him to lead you from wearisome burdens and to rest for your soul. You need it! You deserve it! We all do. When we do our part, Jesus is strong and faithful to do His part!
