DAY 7: Saturday, April 29th
CHRIST’S AMBASSADORS
READ
From now on, then, we do not know anyone from a worldly perspective. Even if we have known Christ from a worldly perspective, yet now we no longer know him in this way. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come! 18 Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. 19 That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:16-20)
DEVOTIONAL
In the college ministry I had the privilege of serving in, we had a mantra; 5:20. It came from this verse in 2 Corinthians 5:20. We wanted our students to always remember that they were called to be ambassadors for Christ. No matter where they were or who they were with, they were ambassadors. Everywhere they went they were representatives for Jesus. So we adopted this verse and asked everyone to set an alarm for 5:20 so that they could stop and pray and remind themselves of this truth, that they are Christ’s ambassadors. And this is true of us. Yes, here in Jamaica but also every moment we’re alive. As Christians we are His representatives. And it’s important for us to think about what this means. This means when someone meets us they are learning not just about who we are, but they are learning what Jesus is like. And God is using us to proclaim the gospel and say “be reconciled to God!” So as we prepare to head back to Ohio today, remember that you are still His ambassador. Allow God to continue to work in and through your life.
PRAYER
Take a moment today to pray for our travels back home and that God would continue to use us. Pray that you would take what God has taught you throughout this trip and that these lessons would allow you to be a more effective ambassador each and every day.
