A Moment of Clarity in the Midst of Transition.
1 Cor. 3
4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere human beings? 5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. 7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. 9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it.
3 Principles to Help Us Safely Navigate the Challenges of Transition
Don’t make it about the
2 Corinthians 4:5
For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord…1 Cor. 3:5-7
What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. 7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.- The messengers were different, but the message was from God through both of them.
- Some details may change, but the most important thing is that Jesus is that we keep our eyes on Jesus, and that will never change!
Prioritize God’s Purpose Over
- 1 Cor. 3:3-4
for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world? 4 When one of you says, “I am a follower of Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,” aren’t you acting just like people of the world?
- Personal Preferences aren’t inherently a sin until they take priority over Spiritual Truths
- Personal Preferences Have the potential to displace our affections off of God and onto a personality.
- 1 Cor. 3:3-4
Don’t resist
- 1 Cor. 12:4
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
- Here’s Why you don’t resist change: because different can actually be from God.
- 1 Cor. 12:4
A Promise From Your Pastor:
Change is impossible to avoid, but it won’t come because we’re chasing the newest trend, or our own personal preferences. It will be because we are wholeheartedly pursuing the heart of God.
The most important things, like Pursuing Jesus, will remain steadfastly unchanged.
- His Love still saves the sinner,
- His Word still equips the saint,
- His presence is still our priority.
This is what you can always trust your pastor and our team are fully committed to
