Proverbs 28:1-28
28:8 | The person who amasses a fortune dishonestly often eventually loses it to those who are inclined toward helping the less fortunate.
28:13 | David, Solomon’s father, knew from experience that he could not hide his sins (Ps. 51); they always are revealed sooner or later (Num. 32:23). Thankfully, as David learned, confession results in God’s mercy and forgiveness.
28:19 | Whereas material wealth was a sign of blessing in the OT, the NT focus is on “giving,” not “having.” Proverbs has persistently linked the potential for prosperity - and the avoidance of calamity - with a person’s willingness to work hard (6:6-11; 10:4-5; 12:11). Proverbs does not unconditionally promise material blessing to those who work hard, but it highlights the general truth that prosperity is often the result of one’s willingness to be diligent and industrious. This willingness is a sign of wisdom.
28:27 | God has promised many blessings for people who give to the poor (19:17; 22:9). For one, He makes sure they will not lack what they need. Anytime God blesses someone, it is so he or she can be a bessing to others.
