Now when the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. And Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. —2 Kings 2.1-2 (ESV)

ASK YOURSELF 3 QUESTIONS
1. Who should I be spending time with?
2. What should I step out and attempt that seems risky or a little frightening?
3. Who could I pour into so that I can ensure my experience, influence, and legacy lives on after I’m gone?

Do you have someone right now in your life that you are submitted to as a spiritual mother or father?

We may never fully become who God intends us to become until we allow ourselves to be led by a mother and/or father in the faith.

There are people in your life that may never become what God intends them to become unless you come alongside them and help them invest into God’s destiny in their lives.

People cannot be what they cannot

.

Everyone needs

.

The Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind. —2 Kings 2.1 (ESV)

As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you. —2 Kings 2.2 (ESV)

As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you. —2 Kings 2.4 (ESV)

As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you. —2 Kings 2.6 (ESV)

Father’s don’t always lead you the easy way, but the

way.

Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on. Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. Then Elijah took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground.” —2 Kings 2.6-8 (ESV)

Having a father or mother in the faith will open up doors of opportunity we would not otherwise be able to access.

When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.” —2 Kings 2.9 (ESV)

He must acknowledge the son of his unloved wife as the firstborn by giving him a double share of all he has. That son is the first sign of his father’s strength. The right of the firstborn belongs to him. —Deuteronomy 21.17

Parents will

pass down their spiritual DNA.

QUESTION: IF YOUR NATURAL LIFE ENDED TODAY, WHAT WOULD YOUR CHILDREN (NATURAL & SPIRITUAL) REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR WALK WITH JESUS?

And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.” And he said, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.” And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it and he cried, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. And he took up the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over. —2 Kings 2.9-14 (ESV)

The son has to

what the father leaves behind.

The son has to

what the father leaves behind.
